Our 2013 Cabernet Malbec is made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Franc. The Malbec portion ripens earlier and was picked on March 30th while the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were picked on April 13th and 14th respectively. These wines were fermented separately in small open topped vats where they were gently hand plunged and pumped over to aid in extracting the maximum amount of flavour and colour from the berries.
A lot of care was taken during our blending trials to ensure our Cabernet Malbec was the best blend we could produce. We can now relax in the knowledge that the right decisions were made as our 2013 Cabernet Malbec picked up a TROPHY at the 2014 Hawke’s Bay A&P Show. According to the judges ours was the best Cabernet predominant blend from an outstanding vintage in Hawke’s Bay. This wine is destined for great things and will age majestically over the next 10+ years.
