The Levels Vineyard at Te Awanga is planted in Chardonnay, Riesling and a small parcel of Sauvignon Blanc. There is very little top soil and is largely made up of stony beach gravels. The stones are free draining but with irrigation we can provide the optimum level of water the grape vines require resulting in concentrated perfectly ripe fruit almost every season. The Pacific Ocean is only a stone’s throw from the vineyard providing a cool sea breeze all day long. This not only helps retain the fresh acidity required to make fine white wines but also lowers the incidence of disease by providing a breeze that flows in and around the bunches. The Levels Vineyard is Sustainable Winegrowing NZ accredited.
The Track Vineyard is in the world renowned Gimblett Gravels region of Hawke’s Bay. www.gimblettgravels.com All of our red varieties are grown here and include; Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Montepulciano. Our Single Vineyard Chardonnay is also from this site. The Gimblett Gravels area has proven itself to be one of New Zealand’s prized grape growing districts. Our site has a little more top soil than most of the gravels which we believe give our wines a distinct volume and richness. 2013 and 2014 were stellar vintages for Hawke’s Bay and our Track Vineyard has really come into its own providing us with some outstanding wines. The Track Vineyard is Sustainable Winegrowing NZ accredited.
Ohiti Valley Road
We have been contracting fruit from this vineyard for years as it consistently provides us with quality Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. The vineyard is on an old river bed and acts as a ‘heat trap’ ripening all varieties easily every year.
